Born in Sverdlovsk, Russia, Sasha Volpov started playing  cello from early age.

Started first at Ekaterimburg School for Musically gifted children, then contunied at Rachmaninov Conservatory in Rostov and finished his Post-Gratuation in Moscow ,at Gnessin Institut.

He won Soviet Union & Russia Competitions for Chamber Music  Ensembles and touring since 1975.


During 16 years Sasha taught Cello & Chamber Music at Rachmaninov Conservatory.


After that, he moved to UK and worked as Principal Cello at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and then at the BT Scottish Ensemble.

Nowadays  he's the Principal Cello of the Northen Ballet Theater, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Northen Sinfonia, Opera North & London Concert Orchestra 


This year he has been invited as Guest Professor at Nanjing University in China.
